The Science and Technology Park is an institute set up jointly by Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and University of Pune in the year 1988. It is registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 bearing registration No.12709 dated 25th May 1990 as well as under the Bombay Public Trusts Act, 1950 bearing registration No F/6184/Pune dated 7/ 7/1990 and having its registered office at University of Pune Campus, Ganeshkhind Pune 411007.
Scitech Park acts as an interface to bring complete cohesion between the researchers & industry to work for mutual benefits and for benefit of the society at large. It works as a nodal agency to provide training and consultancy services to various government, public and private sectors. It is also involved in giving need-based training to researchers, entrepreneurs and industries by using resources in terms of manpower and infrastructure of the University and various national and state institutions. The promotion of high-tech entrepreneurship based on indigenous knowledge is one of its prime objectives.
The Scitech Park plays a significant role in knowledge & resource management and mainly focuses on commercializing resources, managing innovations, intellectual property, promotion and commercialization of clean technologies, industry sponsored research, entrepreneurship development, contract research, providing consultancy services in the area of institutional and infrastructural development and building synergy between industries and academia.
The focus area of the Scitech Park, is Management of Intellectual Property and Transfer of Technologies, building database of emerging technologies, organizing high-end need based training programs, training in innovation management, entrepreneurship and start ups, promotion of industrial partnership with academia for collaborative research, contract research and joint technology development.
Also actively engaged in providing consultancy services in the area of environment, resource mapping, technology based solution, and institutional & infrastructure development.
Incubating Technologies is a mandated objective of the Scitech Park, it is evident that incubation is a method of encouragement of entrepreneurship in any industrial climate. The apex body National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) also encourages Science and Technology Entrepreneurs Park's (STEP) to initiate incubation programs within STEP's so that the ideas that germinate in a nursery called STEP are allowed to take roots and grow as successful enterprises in the Technology Business Incubator (TBI). Scitech Park has established a separate institution aptly named the GROWTH LAB where it experiments on growth.
